Neil Demers, Chief Engineer, joined FIO in January of 2023 with the transit of the R/V Western Flyer from MBARI. Has a passion for the ocean and vessel operations, prior to FIO he spent 19 years in various roles throughout the maritime industry, including 16 years in the offshore oil and gas fields around the globe including several new build deliveries and operations in West Africa, US GOM and a bit of cruising in Hawaii.

Currently holds a USCG Chief Engineer Unlimited License, he completed his Bachelors Degree in Marine Engineering at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and a Master’s Degree in Global Energy Management from the University of Colorado, Denver.
